Goal: Try all of Cleveland’s Independent Coffee Houses

This summer I will be in downtown Cleveland taking organic chemistry classes. To keep myself sane, I’ve decided to try all of Cleveland’s independent coffee houses. I study well in them due to the atmosphere and the lack of distractions. Also, let’s face it. College students have to be properly caffeinated. My favorite drink is the cappuccino- European style with a small amount of steamed milk and an expert milk foam. The best one I’ve had in this hemisphere is the traditional cappuccino at Kaldi’s in Saint Louis. It most closely compares to the cappuccinos I’ve had in Vienna, Madrid and Budapest. Zingerman’s in Ann Arbor also has impressive beans. Can Cleveland’s coffee shops compare?

I will blog my way through the different coffee houses and I will share my insights. Here is what I will be looking for:

  • A well-made cappuccino. It has to have quality espresso and a consistent milk foam.
  • Unique atmosphere- it should be relaxing and quirky
  • Wifi available
  • Safe neighborhood with easily-accessible parking
  • Below is the list of coffee houses that I plan to review. If there are any that you believe should be added, please let me know!

    • Civilization in Tremont
    • Lucky’s Cyber Cafe and Coffeeshop in Tremont
    • Gypsey Beans
    • Talksies Film and Coffee Bar
    • Cravings Café in Rocky River
    • Dewey’s Coffee Café
    • Phoenix Coffee
