In my lab, we use polymerase chain reactions quite often in our research. The technique is a staple of any microbiology lab and is an important tool in many areas of science because it allows the exponential amplification of a section of DNA. More advanced techniques, like homologous recombination and real-time PCR are also of great importance. It’s no wonder that the man who discovered the technique won a Nobel Prize!
