Spelling Mishaps Are Not Exclusive to Local News

Our local news media outlets are notorious for consistently publishing egregious spelling errors that seem to pervade all forms of their communication. It has gotten to the point here where it behooves the reader more to proofread newspaper articles and news broadcast titles rather than to read the abject content. Therefore, when I loaded the home page of the New York Times just a few minutes ago, I was shocked to see a spelling mishap on the main page in one of the highlighted articles of this internationally reputed newspaper. Did the New York Times hire an editor from the Toledo Blade?

They must have downsized their proofreading departments as cost-cutting measures in the economy. :)
