Speck Fitted Case

The easy-to-open packaging

The easy-to-open packaging.

Over a month ago I emailed Speck a picture of my customized Seethru case after they had asked for such submissions on their blog. In response, I received an email thanking me and offering me a free Speck product. A response to them was emailed to them within two hours, stating that any product would be greatly appreciated, but that in particular I would like a Fitted case for my iPhone 3G. Over a month passed and I received nothing. No email and no package. Just silence. Finally, on Tuesday of this week I emailed the customer support representative who originally contacted me and I asked her if she had planned on following up on our conversation. She responded quickly, apologized and sent me a shipping notification. Today, three days later, my free Speck Fitted case arrived. Thank you, Speck!

The case is surprisingly svelte and well-made. The fabric on the outside is soft and the inside is nicely cushioned. The one bothersome attribute is the sheer thickness- the iPhone’s screen is noticeably recessed in the case, which doesn’t present an outright problem, but the standby button is recessed to the point where depressing it can be a bit difficult. Installing and removing the case is rather easy, especially compared to the removal process for the Speck Candyshell. I am looking forward to seeing how the case handles daily abuse. My main concern is that the fabric may snag and cause a noticeable degradation of the case’s aesthetics, but currently I am impressed with the quality of its construction. The Speck Fitted case has surprised me with its quality, and I am excited to try it out!
