Eagle Scout Letter of Commendation from Barack Obama
After a Boy Scout receives the highest rank of Eagle, it is traditional to request letters of commendation from various politicians and organizations. In December of 2008 I earned my Eagle Scout Award, and in the subsequent months letters of commendation arrived for me from various congressmen, branches of government, and even Vice President Biden. Later, we received a phone call that my mother almost thought was a prank- the caller announced herself as calling from the White House. The aide wanted to know the date of my Court of Honor in recognition of my achievement of the rank of Eagle. She also assured my mother that the letter of commendation from Barack Obama would be arriving, but that it would take a little bit of time due to the transfer of offices. Fast forward to today and, sure enough, an envelope arrived for me from the White House. The card is clearly hand-signed, which makes it of great sentimental value. It is reassuring to know that the President of the United States values and respects the effort and dedication required to earn the Eagle Scout Award enough to hand-sign this letter. I am very honored by this gesture, and will be sure to frame the card soon.

You really think he signed it, or that one of his aids did? and also, congrats, now go burn the letter. and didn't your patch also get signed?
I hate to break the bad news, but I believe this is not a real signature. I too am an Eagle Scout and I thought the same thing regarding the card I recieved from the White House yesterday(I was also excited). However, after doing a detailed comparision of both our "signatures" it appears they are absolutly identical which would lead me to believe they are not hand signed. However, these singatures looks so genuine it is hard to imagine it is some sort of photocopy. Perhaps there is still hope...
I can post mine if you are sill curious.
Will: On the Fountain Pen Network there was an interesting thread where we decided that the signature was by an AutoPen machine. The dot at the end of the signature showed that a machine paused at the end of the operation with the pen still on the paper, whereas a human would have lifted up the pen rather than pausing. I had never heard of an AutoPen before, but apparently Obama was known to use them on the campaign trail rather frequently.
Here's the thread: http://bit.ly/2fC0L
Mitch: The card was definitely done by an aide. The envelope was hand-addressed, though. To which patch are you referring?
Isn't thers like a rank patch? that i was always told the president(aide) signed the back
